Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking
Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking is one of the historical trekking routes which is previously used by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary in their Mt. Everest expedition in 1953. The trek to Everest base camp is one of the most popular trekking routes all around the world viewing some exhilarating view of natural and cultural beauty. This trekking route goes through the Khumbu region viewing the beautiful green forest with rare wild animals and birds and the snow capped mountains. We can see many beautiful mountains like Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Thamserku, etc. There are two routes to Everest base camp trek. One goes from Lukla and the other goes through Jiri. The trekking route from Jiri is comparatively longer than that of Lukla, so the trekkers should possess adequate time to trek through this route. The way goes passing several alpine forests and the ever flowing river alongside.
While on the trek, we can see many settlements, especially of Sherpa community. We can enjoy the loyal and cordial behavior to the visitors. Similarly, we can see many monasteries and their prayer flags on the way to our destination. The Buddhist prayer flags are hanged throughout the route. The high appraisal of Jiri to Everest base camp is Kala Patthar and Everest base camp from where we can see a close view of Mt. Everest. This section is less crowded as most people fly Lukla and walk only the high portion of the land. The trekking route involves many high lands along with up and down walking.
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu
When you arrive at TIA, a representative from the trekking agency will be there to welcome. After receiving the heartwarming welcome from the representative, we can proceed towards the Hotel. The night we will spend at the hotel discussing about the trekking and preparing for the trekking. The hotel will offers us with a delicious dinner.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Bhandar through Jiri
We start our journey early in the morning. We have to drive to the north east of Kathmandu around 6to7 hours (187km) to reach at Jiri. We should continue to drive until we reach to Bhandar. We can see some panoramic view of beautiful mountains throughout the way. We stay the night at Bhandar.
Day 03: Bhandar to Sete
We should continue our trekking of about six hours to reach at Sete. The Sete is situated at the height of 2400m. We have to climb through the way of forest to Surma Khola. We should continue our way until we reach to Sete. Overnight at nearest Lodge at Sete.
Day 04: Sete to Junbesi
From Sete we continue our trekking through the forests of pine, maple, birch and rhododendrons. We have to pass two villages namely Dagchu and Goyem and Lamjura La pass which is situated at the height of 3530meters. We can see marvelous view of the surroundings from here. We have to descend downwards to Junbesi .we can spend the leisure time there visiting the place at the altitude of 2670m. Over night at Junbesi
Day 05: Junbesi to Nunthala
There is a stream on the way forward. We have to pass the streams and the upwards forest. After walking for a while, we can see magnificent view of White Mountains. We can see the view of mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Thamserku and many more. Thereafter, the way goes some time up and some time down to Nunthala . We stay the night at the height of 2220m.
Day 06: Nunthala to Bupsa
The way goes down to Dudh Koshi River. We have to follow Dudh Koshi River and should headed upwards Khumbu. Thereafter we have to pass several passes throughout the way to reach at Bupsa. We can see beautiful view of nature from Bupsa. We have to walk around 5to6 hours to reach at Bupsa from Nunthala. Overnight at Bupsa
Day07: Bupsa to Surke
We have to walk around 5-6 hours to reach at our next goal. At first we have to climb to Khari La pass at the height of 2880m.The way goes through the forests of rhododendron and oak forests. We can also see a Sherpa community there. After walking for a while, we can reach at Surke .Stay overnight at lodge.
Day08: Surkey to Phakding
Early morning we have to ascend our self to the Chip lung (2700m), a link road to Jiri and Lukla. Then the way goes almost at flat surface with some minor ups and downs. We can see much panoramic view on the way about the greenery presented there. The night can be spent at nearest lodges at Phakding at the height of 2652m.
Day09: Phakding to Namche bazaar
We have to continue our way to the pine forests along with the Dudh Koshi River. After walking for several hours we can enter at the Sagarmatha National Park. Continuing our journey we can reach at Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar offers us with the magnificent and wonderful views. We stay the night at Namche Bazaar at the altitude of 3440m above sea level.
Day 10: Rest day at Namche Bazaar
After having a trekking of over 5-6 hours in the stony trails, it is better to stay the day at Namche Bazaar. This place is also very beautiful. We can roam many places here. The rest day will also helps us to adapt our self at the high altitude where presence of oxygen is generally low. This place is well facilitated with government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants and many things. We can also visit the Sherpa community there
Day11: Trek to Tengboche
After walking for around5-6 hours, we can reach at Tengboche .We can view a spectacular view all the way to Tengboche. We can see mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and a close view of other many mountains. We can see many musk deer, snow leopard, and other high altitude living animals. Finally we reach at Tengboche at the altitude of 3870m above sea level.
Day12: Tengboche to Dingboche
We can see many monasteries at Tengboche with beautiful paintings and pictures pasted on it. Then we continue our way up to the hills. We can have a close view of Mt. Ama Dablam throughout the way. After walking around 6 hours we can reach at Dingboche .There we can see many fields enclosed by stone walls to protect the corns and grains from the snowy wind and animals . Mainly the grows Barley, Buck wheat and Potatoes. We stay the night at Dingboche.
Day 13: Dingbouche to Dughla
Early morning, we start the journey by climbing over to the Dughla through Khumbu valley. As we move up we can see mountains all around us. As we move up, we can see the panoramic view of Mt.Pumori(7138m).The trail begins to descend and bend and become narrower along with the way. After crossing the wooden bridge, we ascend to Dughla. We stay the night at Dughla at the height of 4600m.
Day14: Duglha to Lobuche
After walking for 2-3 hours we can reach to Lobuche from Dughla. We can see many mountains all the way to the Lobuche. Lobuche is situating at the height of 4940m. As we move up with the altitude some of our fellow travelers may fell altitude sickness. We may stay the night at Lobuche.
Day15: Trek from Lobuche to Everest base camp via Gorakshep
We have to walk around 8-9 hours to reach to Everest base camp. We may see Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, and Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse, and other several mountains. After walking for several hours, we can reach to Gorak shep, we will find snow- capped mountains looming all around us including the top of the world. We continue our journey to Everest base camp until we reach there. After having a short journey to the Everest base camp, we will return to Gorak shep again.
Day16: Trek from Gorak shep to Kala Patthar
Today is the last part of our objective. We start our journey early in the morning witnessing the glance of early morning’s sun. We can see a spectacular view of sun rising between the mountains from Kal Patthar. We have to walk around 8-9 hours today. Kala Patthar is situated at the height of 5545m
Day17: Pheriche to Tengboche
It will take approximately 4 hours for us to reach to Tengboche from Pheriche. We can see a research center there then after we should continue our journey towards Tengboche through the forest of rhododendron. We spend the splendid night at the nearest hotel.
Day 18: Tyangboche to Namche bazaar
We should continue our trekking early in the morning to the downhill .After a while we should climb over the hills to reach at Phungitenga. From Khumjung, a several hours walking will leads us towards Namche bazaar. Overnight at Lodges
Day19: Trekking from Namche bazaar to Lukla
From Namche bazaar, it will take around 6 hours for us to reach at Lukla. This day’s trekking will be the last. The route is pleasant and generally flat. We can enjoy the green forest of rhododendron and pine forest along the wild animals on the way back to Lukla. We have to spend the night at Lukla.
Day 20: Fly back to Kathmandu and Final departure
It will take only few minutes for us to fly back to Kathmandu. During the flight, we can view the panoramic view of different mountains. The final departure will be at Tribhuvan international airport. A good arrangement of your departure is already done by the agency and will help if any problem arises for your departure.
