Makalu Base Camp Trekking
Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world standing with the height of 8463m above sea level. There is national park namely Makalu Barun National Park at this area. The total area of this national park is about 2330 sq. km. This region is both geographically and culturally beautiful which a dream is for many trekkers. We can see the beautiful picture of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu Mountain during our trekking to the Makalu base camp. We need to acclimatize ourselves throughout the way while trekking to this area. The trekking area is totally restricted by the modern lifestyle of the people, so we can see very few numbers of people and lodges throughout the way. The maximum height at Makalu base camp trekking is 5000m. We can view a distinct view of mountains and vegetation along with the rare and extinct wild animals while trekking through this route.
Most of the trekkers used to visit the Makalu base camp during the October- November and March –April season. But according to the demand of trekkers, Google Trek Visit Mustang has organized a all year round trekking to the area with a provision of good guide facilities. The trekkers may enjoy the spectacular view of wildflowers and beautiful flowers that we may found here. More than 3000 species of flowering plant and abundant number of animals has created beautiful sceneries at this place. Similarly, we may see Ghoral, Himalayan Thar, red panda, snow leopard and several other extinct animals at this trekking area.
Details Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu
When you arrive at TIA, a representative from the trekking agency will be there to welcome. After receiving the heartwarming welcome from the representative, we can proceed towards the Hotel. The night we will spend at the hotel discussing about the trekking and preparing for the trekking.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Mane Bhanjyang via Tumlingtar
From Kathmandu, we have to fly over to Tumlingtar by plane. It will take us several hours for us to reach at Tumlingtar. After getting off the plane, we will have to trek further towards Mane Bhanjyang. We will stay the night at Mane Bhanjyang. Mane Bhanjyang is situated at the height of 1030m.
Day 03: Mane Bhanjyang to Chichira
From Mane Bhanjyang, we will resume the trekking towards Chichira. The path goes through the bamboo forest along the ridge through Arun than, Sheka and Bhotebas. We have to trek for 5 to 6 hours to reach at Chichira from Mane Bhanjyang.
Day 04: Chichira to Num
From Chichira, after having the breakfast we will move towards the Num. We have to move through the way to Jungle and suspension bridge. After walking for a while, we can reach at Mure. After walking through the downhill of the valley, we can reach at Num. we have to trek for about 5 to 6hours.
Day 05: Num to Seduwa
After spending a night at Num, we will move forwards to Seduwa. We need to continue our way crossing the suspension bridge. We have to climb to steep hill to reach at Seduwa at the altitude of 1540m. the whole trekking route is about 5 to 6 hours.
Day 06: Seduwa to Tashigaon
We have to walk early after having the breakfast. We have to cross several bridges and passes to reach to Kasuwa River. After crossing the meadows and the pasture lands, we can reach at Tashigaon School. We can see some houses here. We have to trek for about 5 hours to reach at Tashigaon from Seduwa.
Day 07: Tashigaon to Kongma
The trekking from Tashigaon to Kongma is tough. We have to ascend through the forest and through the small shepherds hut called Chipla (2520m). We can’t see building here, so we have to pass the night at tent. The trekking route is about 6 hours long. The Kongma is situated at the altitude of 3560m.
Day 08: Kongma to Mumbuk
The trail first goes to the high hill t the height of 3840m from where we can view a panoramic view of magnificent view of surrounding peak. We will follow the path to rhododendron forest. After walking for a while, we have to cross the Ghungru La pass (4050m) and have to descend through the Shipton pass. We will continue the way to reach at Mumbuk at the altitude of 3550m for about 7 hours.
Day 09: Mumbuk to Nghe Kharka
The trail descended to the Barun Khola through fir and rhododendron forest. We have to pass the cave at 3250m from where we can see the view of many peaks around us. We have to cross the Barun river on a wooden bridge to Yangle kharka and then to Nghe Kharka. The whole trekking route is about 6 to 7 hours.
Day 10: Nghe Kharka rest day
We will take rest at Nghe Kharka for a whole day. We have a good facility of water here and with the presence of bravura beauty around us we will be encouraged to spend the day visiting and exploring the place.
Day 11: Nghe kharka to Shersong
From Nghe Kharka, we have to climb alongside a waterfall and then to a meadow. We will continue our trekking viewing the beautiful glaciers of Barun River. We also can see the beautiful picture of mountains around us. We have to trek for about 6 to 7 hours to reach at Shersong from Nghe Kharka.
Day 12: Shersong to Makalu base camp
From the Shersong (4610m), we have to move towards the Makalu base camp. We have to follow the way to the uphill. We are entering at the Makalu region with the every step that we will take. We will stay the night at Makalu base camp after walking for about 5 to 6 hours.
Day 13: Return to Yangle kharka
After completing our main objective, we have to move downward to Yangle kharka as early as possible because the weather may be worse later of the day. We have to acclimatize ourselves during the trek. After walking for several hours we can reach at Yangle kharka. We will stay the night at camp at Yangle kharka.
Day 14: Yangle kharka to Mumbuk
We have to return the same way as we have move up. We have to walk through the main trail for several hours to reach to Mumbuk from Yangle kharka. We can enjoy the trekking route by watching the beautiful Himalayas. The route is about 4 to5 hours.
Day 15: Mumbuk to Kongma la pass
From Mumbuk, we trek down to the Kongma la pass through the Tutu la, Shipton land Keke la. The trekking route is about 6 hours long as we may see beautiful view of nature all around us. The Kongma la pass is at the altitude of 3560m.
Day 16: Kongma la passes to Seduwa
We have to trek for about 4 to 5 hours down the trail to reach at Seduwa. We can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the way. The Seduwa is located at the height of 1540m above sea level. We will spend the night at Seduwa.
Day 17: Seduwa to Tumlingtar
The trekking route from Seduwa to Tumlingtar is quiet long. We have to move down the path, so, we will feel a bit convenience while walking down the valley. We can comparatively walk a long distance. We have to stop at Num to have our lunch. We will stay the night at Tumlingtar at the altitude of 1840m.
Day 18: Tumlingtar to Kathmandu
From Tumlingtar, we have to board on a plane and should fly towards Kathmandu. It will take only few hours for us to reach at Kathmandu from Tumlingtar. We will feel relax at the plane and can enjoy the mountain’s view from the plane. At airport, a representative from Google Trek Visit Mustang will be there to heartily welcome you for your successful trekking to the Makalu base camp
Day 19: Farewell Programs
The final departure will be at Tribhuvan international airport. A good arrangement of your departure is already done by the agency and will help if any problem arises for your departure. Wishing for a better further journey, our magnificent journey ends here.
