Upper Mustang Trekking

Upper mustang trekking is one of the greatest adventurous as well as explores able trekking area of Nepal. It glimpses the view of Buddhist kingdom of Mustang valley. The traditions and the lifestyle of the people living here is similar with that of the people of Tibet. The houses of here are mostly build by stones with a white color on its wall along with firewood tucked on the roof. The landscapes of Mustang are also similar with Tibet as culture. This land is surrounded by giants’ rocks and mountains from all around. Mustang is a spiritual land in the rain shadow area of Nepal. Mustang is also considered as “the Desert” of Nepal. Upper mustang is one of the most beautiful and picturesque place of Nepal. The upper mustang was a separate kingdom of Nepal till there exist monarchy system in other part of Nepal. They still respect one of the people named as Jigme Paramal Bista as their king. The trail goes through the Kali Gandaki River. The gorges made by the Kali Gandaki River are probably the deepest part of the world. The land of upper Mustang is enriched with many traditional Buddhists monasteries and Gumba.

The most expedient route (that Google treks visit Mustang suggests)to get to Upper Mustang is to fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and to trek thereafter. Following the way up to the Kali Gandaki to Kagbeni, we can enter into the restricted area of upper Mustang.   The journey to Upper Mustang will be equally enchanting as we may intermingle with the local people at the different places of the area. While trekking through this area, we may need a good provision of tent or camp as we may find very few numbers of lodges and guest houses on the route. The hospitable nature of the people combined with the beautiful scenery of the nature has surely increased the gorgeousness of this land.

Namaste

Michael Grant I wish to express my gratitude and support to the guide Saran Adhikari whom Visit Mustang Tours provided to me for my trek into the Lantang region. I was most impressed with his knowledge and expertise of the trekking terrain in this area. He was obviously well respected by the local tea-house owners and families wherever we went. I experienced some difficulties with altitude sickness so Saran simply altered our trekking route to reflect my needs. I can only thoroughly recommend Saran Adkihari to yo chrismichael60@gmail.com Michael Grant.
